神秘的确认与和解

 

从古代部落间交换礼物以来,“符号交换”就成为交流沟通的重要环节,甚至构成人类区别于动物的重要特征。作为符号的交换舍弃了交换物的实质内容,在非物质交换的意义上——文化的、政治的、社会的、历史的意义上——维系着共同体生活的价值和常识。

全球化的浪潮正在逐步将商品社会扩展至世界每一个角落,正在将一切未被商品化之物变为商品:由此一切事物都带上了符号交换的可能,货币作为纯粹的符号吸纳并转化一切物质的实体性。中世纪君主国的政治神学如今将成为后现代商品经济学的直接母本,“国王的两个身体”在经历世俗化洗礼后终于被“商品的二重价值”所取代。

商品文化作为纯粹的符号,也有一张雅努斯的脸孔:在哀唱事物的实质正逐步让位于交换价值的同时,它也欢呼新的交换样式;新的人与人的相互关系将要或正在形成。

Symbolic Exchange (From Watch to Travel, From Travel to Settle)

Mysterious Confirmation and Reconciliation

 

Since the exchange of gifts between ancient tribes, "symbolic exchange" has become an important part of communication and even become an important feature that distinguishes human from animals. The exchange as a symbol has abandoned the substance of exchange. In the light of non-substance exchange, in cultural, political, social and historical sense, the value and common sense of community life is maintained.

The wave of globalization is gradually extending the commodity society to every corner of the world, and is turning everything that has not yet been commercialized into commodity. So everything has attached the possibility of being symbolically exchanged, and currency is regarded as a pure symbol absorbing and transforming all substances’ materiality. The political theology of medieval monarchy has now become the direct parent of postmodern commodity economics. Having experienced the secular baptism, “the king’s two bodies” are eventually replaced by “the double values of commodity”.

As pure symbols, commodity cultures also have a Janus’ face: While wailing over the gradual replacement of substance by exchange values, it also hails the new exchange style. New interpersonal relationships are forming or will be formed.
